Ring in the New Year Clutter Free
Clearing out your space has many mental health benefits – it reduces stress and anxiety, it makes cleaning your room a more enjoyable process and you might even discover lost treasures. Start the new year with a clean slate by taking some time to declutter your space and donating the items you no longer use or need to Goodwill Industries of Central Oklahoma.
Your donations help our world become more sustainable and contribute to the creation of job opportunities for your fellow Oklahomans. When customers buy your donations from our store, they fund many meaningful programs that help local individuals with disabilities and disadvantages, including single mothers or fathers, youth and many others in central Oklahoma – and it all started with you!
When deciding on which items to donate, think about the items you have not used in more than a year. Use this time to donate items that are too small, too big or a season out of style to create a more peaceful morning routine when choosing what to wear.
Decluttering also provides an opportunity to teach your family the importance of donating and giving back to the community by encouraging kids to donate toys other kids would like to play with. In addition to clothes and toys, Goodwill also accepts kitchenware, video games, books, bikes, electronics, and even vehicles.
The impact you have on our community goes beyond dropping off your donations at our centers. Your donated items are used to help individuals overcome challenges to employment with programs such as the Supported Employment Program, Goodwill Career Pathways Institute, a High School Equivalency Test Prep program and more. Goodwill also helps veterans through the Supportive Services for Veteran Families program. Last year, your donations helped 4,054 job seekers and provided 12,251 services to those in need.
When donating to your local Goodwill, you are also helping to declutter our landfills by removing items such as clothes, shoes, electronics and more. In fact, your donations helped us keep 18 million pounds out of the landfill just last year.
In addition to having a clutter-free space, all donations are tax deductible – just ask for a receipt when dropping off your items at one of our attended donation centers. So, what do you plan to declutter and donate before the end of the year?
