Moving on Out by Moving on Up
The end of a semester at many colleges and universities is capped by a ritual almost as iconic as the graduation ceremony: packing up and moving out. Over the course of this one- to two-week period, students throw out clothing and household items. In doing so, they create an overwhelming volume of items destined for landfills.
Moving out of the dorms can be chaotic, with students and parents carrying boxes down hallways, congested car traffic and the hurried efforts of staff to keep order. The result is often dumpsters overflowing with decorations, clothing, lamps and other usable items.
Donate When You Are Moving
When rummaging through your dorm room at the end of the semester, use a system to help you make decisions on what goes with you and what goes to a new home. Take a look at your items and make a pile for donations. Bookshelves and books, clothing, notebooks and décor are all great examples of donations Goodwill is looking forward to seeing in their store instead of the dumpster.
When you donate to Goodwill Industries of Central Oklahoma, your donations will be sold in one of our retail stores and generate revenue in which 89 cents of every dollar helps fund our mission of helping individuals overcome challenges to employment. All donations are tax-deductible; merely ask for a receipt when dropping off your donations.
