Goodwill Industries of Central Oklahoma stands at the forefront of a developing workforce landscape, equipping individuals with the skills and support they need to thrive in the modern job market.

In an era of rapid technological advancements and evolving industries, workforce development has emerged as a critical aspect of ensuring sustainable economic growth in central Oklahoma. Gaining recognition from the Governor’s Council on Workforce & Economic Development and local nonprofits, Goodwill has long been a workforce development partner for job seekers and employers across the state. With our Goodwill Career Pathways Institute, Employment Services Center, and mobile career assistance serving 37 counties, we are so much more than a thrift store.

Individualized Job Placement Services

One size does not fit all in today’s diverse job market. We understand that finding employment is a multifaceted journey, which is why our employment specialists work closely with individuals to understand their strengths, interests, and goals, creating personalized plans that map out the steps needed to achieve their desired careers.

Goodwill’s Employment Services Center offers instruction in workplace etiquette, professional communication, resume workshops and interview preparation to increase the likelihood of individuals successfully entering or re-entering the workforce. This tailored programming is made possible by a dedicated team of employment specialists and trainers, who provide free, personalized assistance to jobseekers to more than 5,000 clients each year.

Catering to Special Populations

Within the growing sphere of fair-chance employment, our programming specifically addresses two key populations: re-entry to the workforce for those with criminal justice backgrounds and youth job preparedness

Through our Re-entry Employment Preparation Program (REPP), individuals with criminal justice backgrounds are guided toward available resources and potential career pathways that align with their skills. Our YEPP sister program (Youth Employment Preparation Program) teaches essential workplace skills and the effective use of career exploration tools to underserved youth from the ages of 14 to 20.

Staying on the Forefront of Innovation

State-of-the-art classes and training equipment help clients and Goodwill’s own employees upskill and reskill in a variety of areas. One of the most exciting additions to Goodwill’s innovative training arsenal is the Virtual Reality (VR) forklift training program. Made possible by a 2021 United Way Wayfinder grant, this program equips participants with the safety skills needed in the warehousing and logistics sector. This initiative has already yielded remarkable success, training 56 individuals through on-site virtual labs and facilitating placements with local employers like Hobby Lobby, Kimray, and Locke Supply.

It is through these partnerships and our 20-member community board that we stay updated on the latest industry trends and adapt our programs accordingly. This synergy between our training and employers’ needs enhances the employability of our program graduates and allows us to place nearly 1,800 Oklahomans into jobs each year.

Empowering the Workforce of Tomorrow

Through reskilling, embracing technology, offering personalized pathways, providing comprehensive support, and collaborating with employers, we drive success in an ever-changing job market. The revenue support generated by our 25 retail stores help us propel more than 10,000 individuals toward brighter futures each year. You can help us increase this number by contributing financially or donating your gently used items to one of our 43 donation locations.
