THE ABILITIES SCHOLARSHIP
We Work With YOU:
The Abilities Scholarship encourages individuals with disabilities to pursue their educational goals and to build a base of trained, skilled workers for a future workforce.
Students eligible for consideration for the Abilities Scholarship are:
- Graduating high school seniors from the state of Oklahoma
- Minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
- Written documentation from a physician or service provider supporting that the candidate meets the definition of "disabled" as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act.
- Applicants must be citizens of the United States
How It Works:
Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need, academic record, leadership and participation in the school or community activities, work experience, statement of educational and career goals, unusual personal or family circumstances. Preference will be given for financial need. Decisions are not affected by a person’s race, color, religion, gender or sexual orientation.
Scholarship funds maybe used for degree or certification studies only, at academically accredited institutions in the United States; for tuition, fees, and books. If the scholarship recipient resides in college housing, the scholarship can include funds for room and board. Funds maybe used for adaptive equipment such as electric wheel chair or tutor necessary to pursue academic studies. Funds are intended for the academic year immediately following high school graduation.
The GICO Abilities Scholarship Fund is managed by the Oklahoma City Community Foundation. Click Here for more information and to view the complete scholarship application packet.
Get Involved:Support The Scholarship
Help us replenish our scholarship fund! In 2012, Goodwill Industries of Central Oklahoma held the first Peace, Love & Goodwill benefit concert. As a result, and with community support, Goodwill deposited $35,000 into the Abilities Scholarship. This allowed Goodwill to continue funding existing Abilities Scholars and to name Jordan Satterlee the Abilities Scholarship's newest recipient.
An event like Peace, Love & Goodwill requires the support of businesses that see value in our mission and want to have their brands associated with it. Your sponsorship will help ensure the success of Peace, Love & Goodwill and the continuance of our scholarship. There are many levels of support and any amount is appreciated. Join us in helping young Oklahomans achieve their potential.
All proceeds from the Peace, Love & Goodwill Benefit Concert will be donated to the Abilities Scholarship fund, managed by the Oklahoma City Community Foundation.
